Obama Rally

Today Luke, Jack and I trekked out in the rain to the Indiana State Fair grounds for a Barack Obama rally. It was SO GREAT!! We had the best time. I have such hope and faith in our country and in Barack Obama. It was amazing sitting there with my husband (who has already voted) my child and a very diverse group of people, listening to the man whom Luke and I (Jack too) hope to be our future president.

So much of this election is not about me and my generation or generations older that me, it is not about my politics or plans, now, it is all about Jack. I want Jack to be raised in a country that possesses a set of ethics and values that are important. Values that were taught to me by my parents and grandparents, taught to Luke by his parents and grandparents and hopefully, taught to Jack by his parents and grandparents. I want Jack to grow up in a world that values the lives of all people. A culture where money is not the driving force to all things. A world where there are polar bears and a nation that does not owe China $10,000,000,000,000 (trillion) dollars. I want Jack to grow up in a nation where his little sisters (God willing!!) will be treated equally to him. Where people are not denied basic rights, like marrying those who they love, health care or a living wage.

No, I do not believe that Barack Obama is capable of changing all of these things, however, I do believe, that by voting with my, and Luke with his, values and ethics, we will be voting for the person that best reflects what we want in a nation.

Excited

We're going to see Obama in Indy today!!!!!

Politically Speaking....

What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?

What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said "I do" to?

What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his looks standards because she had a horrible auto accident?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?

What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?

What if Obama were a member of the Keating-5?

What if McCain were a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

You are The Boss... which team would you hire? With America facing historic debt, 2 wars, stumbling health care, a weakened dollar, all-time high prison population, mortgage crises, bank foreclosures, etc.

Educational Background: This is truly startling

Obama:
Columbia University - B.A. Political Science with a Specialization in International Relations.
Harvard - Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude
&
Biden:
University of Delaware - B.A. in History and B.A. in Political Science.
Syracuse University College of Law - Juris Doctor (J.D.)
vs.
McCain:
United States Naval Academy - Class rank: 894 of 899
&
Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University - 1 semester
North Idaho College - 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho - 2 semesters - journalism
Matanuska-Susitna College - 1 semester

Petting the Donkey...HEY HE BIT ME!!!

I love this picture!

mama and me (above, NOT BELOW! SMART ALECKS!!)

We went to the pumpkin patch on Wednesday. We had a great time! Appleworks is such a nice place. My friend Lana got married there last year and we've been a few times since her wedding. We bought some apples, I am going to TRY to make some homemade applesauce, if anyone has any good advice, let me know! We we to the petting zoo and Jack got to pet a goat, chicken, llama, horse and donkey. Unfortunately, the donkey bit Jack, but he survived it, poor guy. He redeemed himself though and pet the donkey one last time. We didn't pick out any pumpkins, we'll go down again next week and find the perfect pumpkin, but we did see some good ones there though.

When we got home Wednesday afternoon, I wasn't feeling very well. I ended up getting the flu Wednesday/Thursday. I unfortunately had to go to class on Thursday to give a presentation, which went well, but I was not feeling good the entire time. I got home Thursday night to find out that Luke also got sick. I was feeling well enough to take care of Jack and Luke. Luke felt better on Friday and went to work and then, sure enough, as I was getting ready for bed Friday night, I heard Jack get sick. So, I was up with a sick baby all Friday night. Have you ever seen a 1 year old throw up chicken and noodles? It is not pleasant. Jack slept with me Friday night and threw up several times, but seemed to feel better by Saturday afternoon. Our entire house is healthy, hopefully this was the only bout of the flu we will get this year!

The weekend was fairly low key and we're ready for a busy week BACK TO NORMAL!

Remember, comment!! I need to know if anyone is reading this thing.

Also, my Uncle Matt is on his way to Afghanistan, so please say an extra prayer for him, my Aunt Jen and cousins Madison, Mallory, McKenzy and Jaxon! We love you Matt, be safe and see you in a few months!

Also, please keep sending prayers to Burundi for the Timbie Family! We miss you!

Visits, visits and more visits

We've had a busy few weeks here at the Spence household. Jack and I continue our 3 day a week workout, plus story time and mommy and me. We love getting out of the house and meeting new people. School is keeping me busy, my first class will be done next Tuesday, which is exciting, but I start a new one on Thursday, so it is short lived. I should be writing a paper, but procrastination has always worked fairly well for me. I love how this class is already making me take a step back and re-evaulate my thoughts and feelings on things. However, if anything, I think I am getting pushed further to the left....Luke calls me a radical, which, quite frankly, I'm proud of. But, enough about politics.....for now.....

Luke has been home a little more lately, which is always nice. He has been working weekends more now that I am in school, which is a bummer, but we love it when he is around. A week and a half ago Grandma and Grandpa Spence came for a quick visit. We enjoyed their company and Jack loves his grandparents. The first night we just hung out and went out for dinner to Luke's favorite place (outback). Thursday, I went to class and they all went to the zoo, I hear that they had a good time. It is always nice for Jack and Luke to be able to spend time with Dennis and Sandy.

After they left, I got Jack and I packed up and we headed to Iowa for a few days. My dad picked us up from the airport and Jack and I had a great time hanging out with him for awhile. My dad recently started a new career (let me know if you need a financial planner :) ), so the times that we have come home lately, he has been able to pick us up and we've been able to spend time with him. I love seeing them get to know eachother. Grandma came home a little later and Jack had fun with her. She loves on him a TON and he knows that he'll get away with most things with her.

After that, we went to my mom's house. Caroline was anxiously awaiting our arrival. Grammy and Grandpa Wagner got home soon after and everyone showered Jack with love and attention. I love how much everyone loves Jack, he's such a special little guy. Saturday we went to Caroline's soccer game and we saw them DOMINATE the other team, she has quite a good soccer team. Something about those Nevada girls!!! Nicole and Jay stopped by for a while and we got to see them, which was great.

Saturday night mom, Mike and I went to see the Nights in Rondande IT SUCKED!!! HORRIBLE!!! Plus, old people having sex is never interesting....!! (even if you're older, my mom didn't like it either!) Liz watched Jack and they had fun, he LOVES his auntie Liz!

Sunday I met Amy and Amy for lunch. We had the Cafe, which was good, but Jack WAS NOT GOOD! It was the first time that I had ever been embarassed by him in a restaurant....the first of many I'm sure! SORRY GIRLS!! But, I had a good time chatting with the girls.

Sunday we went back to Dad and Karen's. Uncle Paul came home to visit, which was fun. Jack just smiled at him so much. CUTE!

Monday we flew back to Indiana. Jack is SUCH A GOOD FLIER!!!! He takes after his daddy. He was good on all of the flights and we made all of the flights too, which was great. We're so lucky that we have been having such easy times when we fly to Iowa, it is MUCH EASIER than driving.

PS Sorry that there are so few photos, I'm HORRIBLE about taking pictures when we're back in Iowa, so I don't have any from this trip, maybe next time?!?!?!

Also, Jack LOVES the vacuum, I've already started to put him to work!
